SAILING INSTRUCTIONS – SPRING AND FALL SERIES
Sailing Instructions in PDF format
Both club races and ASSA races will use the U. S. Sailing starting flag sequence. it goes like this.
Approximately 1 min. before the sequence starts, 3 short horn blasts will be given to let everyone know that things are about to start.
Five min. before the start of the first class a class flag goes up, accompanied by a horn blast.
One min. later, or 4 min. to the start, the "P" (Preparatory) flag goes up along with a horn blast.
Three min. later, or 1 min to the start, the "P" flag comes down with a blast.
One min. later the class flag comes down with a blast to start that class.
If there is more than 1 class to start, as in the case of the ASSA races, then the next class sequence will start when the race committee determines that the line is sufficiently clear which normally will be after about 1 min.
For our club races we will use a blue flag for the class flag the starting sequence will be that described above. All engines must be stopped by the four minute to go blast.
The first race of the day will start at 12 noon. The second race will follow immediately after the last boat finishes using the same sequence.
All club races will start .3 NM down wind of R2 at the mouth of Edenton Bay between the RC, and an orange spherical float. If there is no RC then the start will be between 2 orange spherical floats. The racecourse will be announced over the radio on channel 68 prior to the start. The finish will be between the RC and R4 if we have no RC the helmsman will call "MARK" over channel 68 when he comes abeam of marker R4 on an imaginary line extending west of R4 and perpendicular to a line from the last mark. The boat must be within 3 of its boat lengths of R4 along the imaginary line for a proper finish.
For all ASSA regattas entry forms must be in by Sat. the week before the regatta. Entry forms must be accompanied by the registration fee and if possible a count of T shirts and meal tickets.
These forms will be available for downloading from the EYC website as they become available or copies can be obtained from Fleet Captain Gil Burroughs.
If you do not have a PHRF Handicap assigned by ASSA then you must contact the Fleet Captain to get your boat measured and a form filled out.
