The 2008 Social Season

The 2008 Social Season featured the events listed below. Some of them have links to a photo collection to bring back happy memories.

The Social Season kicked off with our Annual General Meeting, held in the old Court House on the 1st of March. You can get an overview of the evening and some pictures of the event by clicking on the link.

The other Spring social events future and past with links to photos where available, are listed below;

12th April 2008, This was held in the Old Court House on the 2nd floor, and featured a presentation by John and Robin Sams of their cruise last year up to Lake Ontario. Click on the link for some pictures of the evening.

26th April 2008 Mackeys Marina had their first annual Crab Bash on the 26th of April and a large contingent of members in their yachts made the trip over on a glorious day for sailing. The music was live and the food was excellent as usual, also the beer was on tap.
You can view some scenes of the event on their web site at this link. Mackeys Marina Crab Bash

3rd May 2008, our second Spring Series race day was concluded with a party at the home of Steve and Linda Lane at 308 East King St.
Everyone enjoyed hamburgers and sides by the creek after a brisk sailing day.

17th May 2008, our third Spring Series race day was followed with a party at the home of Bill and Phyllis Pepper with a Tropical Theme.
For some reason I did not get any photos of this event.

31st May 2008, The Pasquotank River Yacht Club regatta was held in Elizabeth City. Results of this regatta and the Osprey regatta are available on their site although the results are a bit mixed up. The first set are for the Osprey regatta and the second set are for Pasquotank.
On the way back from Elizabeth City, the Commodore and the Fleet Captain got caught in a couple of pretty vicious thunderstorms off the Perquimans River. We advise that it would be a good idea to avoid thunderstorms as much as possible.

14th June 2008, As our Spring Series was over by this date, we had a novelty pursuit race.
This is where everyone is assigned a different starting time, based on their predicted elapsed time around the course, and the first boat home wins. The winner of this race turned out to be Ken Aktisson in his J24 Frolic, who was the scratch boat but as usual started about 20 minutes later than his assigned start time. In spite of his handicaps, both assigned and adopted, he overtook every boat in front of him by the end of the race and was awarded a shiny new club licence plate for his car.
Bill and Phyllis Pepper generously hosted the after sailing party, and photos of this evening are on view by clicking the link above.

28th June 2008, The Osprey Yacht Club at Albemarle Plantation hosted their regatta and results are on the Pasquotank River web site at the link above.

23rd of August 2008, our first race day of the Fall Series was memorable for the good breeze and bright sunshine we enjoyed all day. We got two good races in and everyone had a good time.
The evening Social event was hosted by Peter and Lee Lolkema, and they did a magnificent job with assistance from Phyllis Pepper and Bill Shultz and others who chipped in with setting up and clearing up.
Although there was a shower just as we were getting ready to eat that drove everyone inside, the Lolkemas generously allowed us all to spread out through their home.
